This is a workshop where you will learn how to create an abstract painting and incorporate collage into your painting. There is a strong emphasis on incorporating and collaging words into your paintings – maybe a verse from a meaningful song, a poem or a piece of text or you could bring along some words which have meaning. However, if don’t want to add words, that’s fine too.
I often use poems written by my late Grandfather in my paintings – they give meaning and sub text to my paintings, so I want to share this process with you.
During this workshop you will learn how to create abstract paintings incorporating collage in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. All materials are provided, and no experience is needed.
This 4-hour workshop will involve practical sessions which will support you in creating 2 abstract paintings roughly A4 size plus a postcard size painting. To help you feel relaxed I demonstrate and paint along with you during the workshop so that you feel comfortable and at ease, even if you have not painted for many, many years. I truly believe we are all born creative and I hope this workshop will help you to get back in touch with your creative self.
I will guide you through a process where you create abstract paintings with collage in an intuitive way - focusing on creating texture and mark making whilst finding out which colours you are drawn to. You will have the opportunity to try lots of tools during this workshop from brushes, palette knives, paint pens and mark making equipment and of course collage. You will create some of your own collage papers to use within your paintings.
The workshop will take place in my studio which is in my home, and I want you to feel at home as soon as you step through my front door which I why I make homemade lemon drizzle cake served on vintage plates for you to enjoy with your with tea or coffee. The workshop will take place whilst listening to relaxing, calming music which makes the perfect environment for you to relax and enjoy being creative.
You do not need to have any experience, in fact most people who come along have not painted since school or for a very long time. My collage workshop will give you an opportunity to try a new skill or a new way of painting and help you find your creative happy place. However experienced or inexperienced you are, I know you will enjoy these 3 hours of creativity.
This workshop is more than showing you a process, I want you to feel at home, relaxed, and for you to see how creativity can nourish your soul.
Why not bring a friend or family member and share the experience? Alternatively, if you come alone, you will get to meet other likeminded people - I always love how well everyone gets along.
No previous painting experience needed - even if you haven’t painted since school
